Revised Unit 1 Project

Is Batman a Vigilante or Hero?

For the past two years there have been reports of a man going around stopping crime. He goes by the name of Batman. He has proven time and time again that he is not a villain, not only does he not kill, but he saves lives.

But on the other hand, he is breaking the law and I don’t know if Gotham city needs a man undermining the police trying to do their job. You cannot argue against the results, he’s taken down the corrupt commissioner, Mob boss Falcone and many other criminals plaguing this city.

These results while phenomenal, impact the trust people have in the police. People are starting to place their trust much more in Batman than the police. But how good can a man whose main strategy is to make the criminals fear him. While the results speak for themselves, wouldn’t a more positive emotion be a much better choice?

While he is clearly a force of good, he is still a vigilante who is breaking the law. The law that only he seems to above, even in the eyes of our police commissioner.

There are clearly positives and negatives when it comes to someone as controversial as Batman. He’s putting away many criminals and scaring off even more, but newer more dangerous villains are coming out now and it’s obviously a product of Batman.

I would like to leave the deciding factor in the hands of our readers, what do you think, is Batman the hero this city needs, or a vigilante that needs to be stopped.

Batman is making Gotham worse

It’s been two years that Batman has decided to take the crime in Gotham into his own hands.

Despite all of the major criminals he seems to put away they seem to get out even faster. Before he came into the picture crime was very straight forwards and the police were the pride of this city. Now, we have freaks like Bane, firefly, and the worst of them all, Joker. Our jail systems are practically broken as they seem to be a revolving door rather than a cell door.

These wackjobs are constantly plaguing the city and its because of them and the vigilante that the police almost don’t matter. Nobody looks for police anymore when they’re in trouble. They hope for Batman to come and save them.

Crime is at an all time high during the day, people are fearing for their lives even more then they already do, and this is at daytime not even night. His use of fear to mess with criminals’ minds also seems to be affecting the non-criminal citizens making them scared to come out at night.

While I’m not blind and do see how he’s helping the city, I would argue that a lot of that help wouldn’t be needed if he never showed his face in the first place. What we as the people of Gotham must remember is that criminals are supposed to be put away by the police, Batman is a vigilante, what he is doing is illegal and all he’s doing is inspiring anarchy within this city, and I’m not talking about the criminal. Sooner or later you are going to have people in masks running all around Gotham taking the laws into their own hand.

Gotham City cannot continue like this and its time that something is done about this vigilante that has commissioner Gordon on speed dial.

Batman, The Hero Gotham Needed

Over the course of two years Gotham city has changed from a cesspool of despair and crime to and city with hope. Batman has in two years dramatically dropped the overall crime rate and has put more criminals in prison than ever before.

He has saved this city from countless villain attacks and shown again and again that he is the hero that Gotham City was in desperate need of. His use of fear in the way his suit is designed and the ghost like air about him is an effective way to get in the criminal’s minds and further deter them from committing crime.

He not only puts criminals away but also keeps them alive, he has yet to kill a single criminal while much less could be said about our police force, not that I can blame them after all we are in Gotham. This newfound hope caused rebirth in Gotham city as with Batman assisting the police force, the GCPD is now fighting back the crime in this city.

Cop morale is at an all-time high with the hero on their side. In two years, he has put away the people that were poisoning this city, people like Falcone, Penguin, Bane, and even the Joker. I am urging you, the people of Gotham, to see Batman for who he is, not some vigilante, but a hero that has brought hope to such a hopeless city.

I am not blind to how bad Gotham still is and I acknowledge that Gotham will never be a place like Metropolis, but we have taken greater strides in the two years than ever before and this can be credited majorly to the hero, Batman.
